Model Children Library was inaugurate by Syed Fakhar Imam
in 12-18-1991.

Objectives

The MCL has been established by the department of Libraries
in Islamabad with the following objectives:

To help children develop their learning skills through reading.
To educate and train the pupils in the effective use of books
and libraries as source of information.
To provide materials to supplement and enrich instructions and guidance given in the schools.
To help children develop outside the scope of curriculum, intellectual, artistic or practical persuits.
To arrange story telling hours, debates and discussions on books read by the children.
To make children informed citizens of tomorrow.

Collections

There are over 9000 books in English and Urdu including 46 books in Braille and 188 Audio Cassettes. These reading materials pertain to all aspects of knowledge and have been selected keeping in view the interests of children. The Library also subscribes to more than a dozen children magazines and newspapers published in the country.

How to become a Member?

We have currently 7915 Members. Any child between 5-13 years of age whose residence is in Islamabad and is undergoing full time education at any educational institution in Islamabad may obtain a Membership Card on the presentation to the Librarian the appropriate application form duly completed by his/her parents or guardian. The Membership of any child will be suspended or canceled who does not abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Library.

Monday to Thursday and Saturday	Winter	9:00 A.M. TO 4:00 P.M.
	Summer	10:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.
Friday		8:00 A.M. TO 12:00 A.M.

American Discovery Center

American Discovery Center was launched on February 11, 2004. Syed Irshad Ali Shah, Director General, Department of Libraries, Mohammad Aslam Mujahid,Country IRC Director, Ms. Afshan Ameer, Research Associate of UN Center, principals and children from different schools of Islamabad attended the launching ceremony. American Discovery Center is mini digital Library for 5 to 13 year old young students.
